Why use Tiles?
Lining a pool with tiles has long been regarded as the premium finish due to their appearance, silky smoothness
and superior durability. Fully tiled pools are the easiest to maintain and have the most positive effect on house resale values.

Do you see grout lines more with 20mm mosaics?
Whilst there are more grout lines, you don't notice them as much as you do
with larger tiles. Think of check shirts - you see large checks far easier than small checks.

Do I really need waterline tiles at all?
If you are not fully tiling you don't absolutely need to have waterline tiles. However, you
would be hard pressed to find a pool builder who hasn't got tiles on their waterline. If you don't have waterline tiles, the surface
above the water often looks chalky, faded and unclean. Tiles protect the waterline from the sun and facilitate easy cleaning.

Should I tile the benches and seats of my pool?
People often do because it protects swimwear from being pulled by sharp
pebbles. Plus tiled benches and seats look great.
Are your mosaics supplied on mesh?
All our mosaics are supplied on mesh. This includes borders, pictures and plain mosaics.
This is the preferred fixing method for most pool tilers. We mesh the glass tiles ourselves to ensure that they are suitable for use in
swimming pools.

Where can I see photos?
Check out our very comprehensive website at www.pooltile.com.au
Can I see samples?
We have a fantastic showroom at Newstead, Brisbane. If you can't get to our showroom, contact us to have
samples sent to your home.

How will tiles affect water colour?
The water colour you see is due to the interior's colour plus reflections
of the sky, surrounds and waterline colours. So you can make your pool's
water appear darker blue by picking a dark blue tile. With fully tiled
pools, the final water colour will be slightly darker and bluer than
the actual tile. We can provide assistance to help you achieve the end
result you're looking for.
Do I need step markers?
Step markers are used to indicate the edges of steps, swim outs and benches. They are also a safety
feature as they help to highlight the depth of the water to bathers when entering or leaving the pool. It is up to you whether you use
them or not.

Are matching step markers available?
All patterned borders can be supplied with matching tiles for step markers.

Do you offer traditional step tread tiles?
Yes, please visit our website for colour choice.
Can I use tiles on a feature wall?
Tiles are ideal for use on feature walls. You can either
tile the entire wall or render the wall and use tiles as highlights.

Are the tiles suitable for use in salt pools?
Yes, all tiles sold by The Pool Tile Company
are suitable for use in salt pools as well as conventional chlorine, ozone, ionizers etc.

What
is the depth of a waterline tile band?
Anything from 180 mm to 330 mm. The most common depth of a patterned
waterline is around 200 mm. The most common depth for plain ceramic
and glass mosaics is 300mm. This is because most plain mosaics are sold
in sheets 300mm square. If you choose an expensive plain mosaic, your
tiler may cut the sheets to reduce the amount of tiles required.
How do I calculate how many tiles I will need?
Normally your pool builder will advise how many tiles you need to order.
Alternatively, we will help you with your calculations.

How much do they cost?
In general, plain tiles are cheaper than patterned tiles. However the cost to upgrade to a pattern or
design is not prohibitive when considered in the context of the cost of the pool. We'd be happy to send you a price list.

What about delivery?
We can deliver anywhere a freight company goes to. Delivery from Brisbane
to Sydney takes approximately two days or to Melbourne, three days.
Delivery to Perth takes approximately seven days.
Can I devise my own colour schemes and patterns for borders or pictures?
Yes, simply specify each and our mosaic artists will put it together
for you.
Are your tiles suitable for fibreglass pools?
Yes, we can help recommend tile adhesives that are specifically produced
for that application. We would recommend that you choose ceramic tiles
at least 47mm in size.
What are the benefits of natural stone products over man-made products?
Nothing adds value to your property like natural stone. Natural stone
is visually appealing, every piece isn't identical so the appearance
is more natural. If a piece gets chipped, the same colour goes all the
way through. Products such as granite are extremely dense which greatly
increases stain resistance and durability.
Will there be much colour and texture variation?
This depends on which stone you choose. Please satisfy yourself about
the colour consistency of each choice prior to ordering. We cannot accept
any claims about colour or texture after the stone has been laid. Where
possible we try to show typical colour variations in brochure photos,
on the web and in our showroom.
Can I buy custom sizes and finishes for my project?
Absolutely. Getting stone cut to size has a number of benefits. The
pieces can be made to suit site restrictions or personal taste. Pools
being renovated often need sizes that are uncommon and also require
bullnosing to two edges. This is best done by bringing in sizes to suit
each individual pool. Granite in particular offers a great scope for
customisation with sizes (up to one metre in length), thicknesses and
edge profiles. As most of our natural stones are imported there will
be a lead time. This is around 6-8 weeks from China (Granite, Quartzite,
Basalt), 10 - 12 weeks from India (Himalayan Quartz) and 12-14 weeks
from Europe (Travertine and Marble).
Can you supply different surface finishes?
Granite can be supplied with the following finishes: flamed, bush hammered,
sandblasted, sawn, sparrow pecked, pineapple, water jet, honed and polished.
The list goes on. Basically if you have seen something you like, we
should be able to source it.
Can The Pool Tile Company source other materials not shown in the brochure?
We are often asked by clients to match a particular product. We have
an extensive array of contacts and significant experience with sourcing
products both locally and globally. So we welcome the opportunity to
work with you on your project.
Do I need to seal Natural Stone?
Yes, we recommend sealing of all natural stone products. Sealing does
not make Natural Stone 'stain proof' but it gives a window of opportunity
to remove the stain before it penetrates into the stone. Sealing also
helps protect it from pool chemicals. Also, many types of stone contain
small amounts of minerals that may oxidize when exposed to the air and
cause small tea like stains on the surface. Although these stains will
disappear naturally over time, sealing can prevent them from occurring.
Is sealing difficult?
Not really, the most difficult job about sealing is the cleaning prior
to sealing. For this reason it is best to stay on top of keeping your
paved areas cleaned and sealed. We have recommended cleaners and sealers
for each type of paving material we sell.
Can I seal my Natural Stone myself?
Absolutely. Sealing is very easy to do. After cleaning the stone and
allowing it to dry completely, two coats of sealer are usually applied
with a garden sprayer or lambswool applicator, leaving a couple of hours
between coats. In general, we recommend a 'penetrating' type sealer
that blocks the pores in the stone but doesn't change the appearance
of the product. This product does not need to be removed prior to resealing.
How often do I need to reseal the Natural Stone?
This depends on the type and quality of sealer used. In general, most
sealers last two to three years depending on the type and brand. You
need to reseal when you notice that it takes longer to dry out after
rain and/or water doesn't bead on the surface.
Can I seal the stacked stone walling on my water feature?
No, we do not recommend sealing stone on water features as the constant
water running over the stone can cause the sealer to look milky (i.e.
white in appearance), which is unattractive, particularly on dark stones.
Can I lay natural stone products on top of crusher dust or road base
instead of concrete?
Yes you can but they generally need to be thicker in height than our
standard products to stand up to the greater movement. The thicker the
product, the more expensive it is to buy but they can be custom ordered
if you can afford to wait 8 - 10 weeks. The vast majority of professional
layers only pave onto a concrete base. This eliminates the risks of
movement and weeds.
