Basalt ColumnsBasalt columns are a rare commodity that provides the landscape and building community with a wealth of creative opportunities. Basalt columns are formed from cooling lava that weathers naturally to produce earthy colours such as light and deep browns, rusty reds as well as light greens. As each column has been formed in slightly different conditions this creates unique sculptural elements with individual patterning. With their unique properties, natural angles, lines and earthy colours basalt columns are a “must-have” for your next landscaping project. We stock 2.6 metre long columns that are 300-450mm wide. If required, we can cut these columns down, for a nominal charge. Non stock sizes range from 100mm to 500mm across; and 1 metres to four metres long. The columns are usually installed by excavating a trench then pouring a concrete footing. Then after the concrete has cured, stand the columns on the concrete base and brace into position with straps and props. When this has been safely achieved fill the trench with concrete and allow it to cure prior to removing the bracing.
